The standing Lord Shani directs His piercing, unflinching gaze upon the devotee’s every thought, word, and deed. Behind Him perches the crow, His vahana, whose distinct gold body contrasts sharply with the Lord’s dusky complexion. Shani is a personification of the planet Saturn and is the presiding deity over karma and its consequences.
Lord Shani is standing at the threshold of a palatial balcony. He is possessed of four arms - He is chaturbhujadhari - and clad in a minimalistic, amber-coloured loincloth. The same is held in place by a snake, which ominously raises its hood and bares its fangs. Indeed, He stands for retribution and portent and the inescapability of both.
It explains the stateliness of His stance and the iron-like gaze that emerges from those deep, lifelike eyes. Speaking of lifelike, the dynamism in the curls of His hair and the gradient of His complexion, especially facial, are things to marvel at. Such a composition is made with not only skill but also a great deal of shraddha (devotion).
