This Tanjore painting portrays Lord Krishna who is an ocean of mercy and bliss and whoever sees His attractive form gets absorbed in the highest form of pleasure because His transcendental form is Sac-cid-ananda ; Eternal, and full of knowledge and bliss. Therefore, all the inhabitants of Vrindavan were always absorbed in the thoughts of Krishna and loved Him with all their hearts.
The bodily features of Lord Krishna are so enchanting that anyone who sees Him goes into a state of trance. Here in this painting, He stands tall attired in a perfectly pleated pitambara (bright yellow) dhoti and an embroidered dupatta worn over His shoulders. Adorned with several jewels such as long neck pieces, a headband and peacock feather on His head and a flower garland, the Lord looks just like the ever-glowing Sun. The soft and gentle smile on His moonlike face appears sweeter than honey. He places His arms on His waist, the right carrying His divine flute. One glance of Krishna takes anyone to His wonderful pastimes of Vrindavan in which He acted as an ordinary child to bless His pure devotees with His mercy and to reciprocate the unconditional love between Him and them. The bright colors and special embellishment with gold coating and studded stones give this painting a feeling of celebration.
