Tanjore paintings are well known for their unique display of devotional icons and among them, the painting of Radha and Krishna are given the most love. Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, yet He is pleased by Radharani everytime He sees Her. Radharani is the greatest devotee of Lord Krishna and always remains absorbed in His thoughts and remembrance. Since She is the internal potency of Krishna, this divine couple is inseparable. The relationship between them is not based on mundane love which is false and temporary, rather, it is situated in the spiritual platform which is pure and never-ending.
This painting carries the essence of the purity of love between Lord Krishna and Radharani. They stand on an elevated platform; Krishna standing in His most attractive Tribhanga stance (three-fold bending form). He is clad in a dhoti down to His ankles and adorned with a flower garland, several ornaments including a necklace containing the effulgent Kaustubha gem and a peacock feather on His head. He places the left hand on His curvaceous waist and the right on the shoulder of the merciful Radharani standing next to Him, attired in a perfectly pleated saree. Accompanying Lord Krishna, She also stands crossing the left leg at the right ankle forming the tribhanga stance. She is ornamented with several jewels and a soft smile on Her moonlike face is so pleasing for everyone to see. The reciprocation of love between them can be felt with this painting. Also, every bit of this painting has been embellished with 24 Karat gold and shining stones which give it an aesthetic look.
