Lord Ganesha, revered as the patron of science and arts, is the noble child of the great Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. He removes all the obstacles from the path of success (both material and spiritual) of his devotee’ lives, for which he is also known as Vighnaharta Shri Ganesha. He grants his special blessings to those who seek the path to the Absolute Truth and thus, grants them the ultimate knowledge.
In this magnificent painting, Lord Ganesha is seated on a beautiful throne having four arms (chaturbhuja) carrying different items. He has a face of an elephant while the body of a human. Holding an elephant goad and the noose in his two upper hands and a broken tusk in his lower right hand, Ekadanta (having one whole tusk) lord appears as powerful as a thunderbolt. His trunk moves towards the left and goes on his left hand that holds it. He is clad in a dhoti down to his ankles and its perfect pleats spread like a fan between his legs as he sits in Ardha-padmasana. Adorned with a flower garland, heavy stones-studded ornaments, and a huge crown on his head, the pot-bellied lord is accompanied by his mount ‘Mooshak’ that can be seen near his lotus foot, eating a laddoo. Nearly everything in this painting is elaborately and perfectly embellished with 24 Karat Gold which is the characteristic feature of the Tanjore style artwork.
