This painting places the lady between the niche like window above and a carved slab below. The way she stretches her body, the smile on her lips, the dreamy expression in her eyes, all speak of longing and desire.
Hers is a face of proclaimed delicacy, rounded but not fleshy, the features sharp, the mouth small, her eyebrows gently curving over her softly gazing eyes. The hair is swept back behind her. Her body is young and lissome.
The dress she wears is simple and elegant. Her already beautiful body is adorned with elaborate earrings, necklaces at various levels, bangles, armlets and a waist belt that is the acme of opulence. Her hands are decorated with henna. The avid eyes and clear gestures fill the air with quiet but insistent passion. There is so much detail but all remain subservient to the richness of emotion that the painter summons here.
The drapery in the niche is pulled on one side revealing the sky in various hues and green foliage. The background is quite cluttered disturbing the elegant beauty of the woman.
