The fierce ashtabhujadharini gazes ahead with large, beauteous eyes. A garland of lotuses down Her torso, layered over solid, minutely engraved gold gesso-work. A triad of necklaces on Her decolletage, light-and-shade brought out in the gold in a way that makes them appear hyper-realistic.
The adornment and crown of Devi Durga, executed with gold gesso-work, are studded with miniscule crimson stones. These give the impression of rubies, whose vivid hue brings out the gorgeous olive-coloured complexion of the Durga. The deeply textured backdrop (within the temple) serves the impression of fire, accentuating the composure of Her divine countenance.
The simhavahana swallows whole the head of Mahishasura. The trishoola (trident) of Durga pierces the demon’s form. Right afore the gold gesso-worked plinth of the temple is a miniature Devi figure (this is in keeping with the way Durga is worshipped in the Eastern Delta region). Note the dense curves engraved on to the solid gold inlay along the temple walls as well as the templetop, which frame the central seated figure.
