Devi Lakshmi is seated in the lap of a lotus. Its vibrant pink petals gather Her in their folds, setting off the roseate beauty of Her complexion. Clad in a saree of red and gold brocade, teamed with a turquoise blouse woven in with gold and jewels, She looks every bit the presiding deity over wealth and resources. Wife of Lord Vishnu, queen of triloka (the three realms of existence), She is indispensable to the process of preservation, over which presides her husband.
The chaturbhujadharini (possessed of four arms) Devi wields traditional implements in each of Her hands. A miniscule lotus bloom, of the same peachy pink colour, in Her posterior right hand. In Her posterior left, a kalasha of solid gold studded with rubies and emeralds, on the mouth of which is the traditional poojana-specific arrangement of leaves of bael and a ripe coconut. The anterior left hand metes out blessings to the truly hardworking and devoted. Finally, from the folds of Her anterior right palm emerges a steady stream of gold coins.
There is no denying the beauty and power of Devi Lakshmi. Thick black mane that frames a slender torso. An ebullient face set off by the glamour of Her bejewelled crown and karnakundalas (danglers) and nosering. On a slow, steady stream of deep blue waters the haloed Devi floats, passing by the dense tropical forests of the background.
