Here is a distressed lady, emotions that mirror on her face, tell a tale of gloom and sadness. The viewer is at once drawn to her in empathy. Her body is tightly drawn in tension; her arms fold around herself providing comfort, and one foot is raised in anxiety. A sad smile plays on her lips and her eyes look distraught. She is dressed in rich clothes and jewellery but that's the last thing on her mind. Her clothes have a unique tactile quality to it. Numerous folds of the odhini and the ghagra are well defined.
A lazy river flows amidst thick green foliage. Flowering plants grow around rocks strewn on the bank. A sturdy tree provides support to the distraught woman and its bushy leaves act as an umbrella shading her from the harsh rays of the sun. A peacock looks up to her, passive and empathetical in its approach towards the state of the lady.
In a calm, unobtrusive way, this painting allows for the mellow, pensive refinement of the subject to come through, inherently bound with natural dignity.
