Krishna is physically, irresistibly appealing, a fact corroborated here as he stands surrounded by the gopis. His entire persona and the essence of his personality is madhurya.

The cowherd Krishna can never be separated from the bovine he dearly loved. Standing against one, in a pose he knows is attractive, he plays on the flute. A tall crown, topped by a peacock feather adorns his head, surrounded by a halo. Not only does Krishna wear rich ornaments, the cow too is richly decorated. The young women vie with each other to please him by waving the fly whisk over him or carrying trays containing flowers. They wear beautiful attire and fine jewellery with elaborate hair styles.

The trees overhead remind us of the forests of Brindavana and women to be gopis. But the artist gives them haloes, making them seem like celestial beings. But the theme is so energized and pleasing that the viewer overlooks the trifle confusion.
