The blue-bodied Krishna is worshipped as Srinathji in Nathdwara and this frontal image of Srinathji has a compelling presence. Placed in the auspicious symbol Aum, the dark deity emerges from a cascade of garlands. There is interweaving of motif in their different forms for the singular purpose of serving the visual structure. Standing in a tribhanga position with graceful position of the arms, he holds his favourite flute in his left hand. The deity wears rich clothes and an elaborate headgear. The iconic image of Srinathji has a robust form and a round, broad face. The sense of animation that charges the image and motifs alike springs from the sense of ornament. The follower of Pushti Marga is a connoisseur in every field. All their art, including painting reflects this attitude of celebration.
Dyed in brilliant color in the technique of batik, where each color is separately dyed while the rest of the picture is covered with wax application, the painting uses gold liberally especially to outline the central image. The background is in ascending tones of blue and the characteristic crackle of batik is more visible where color blue is lightest. More than anything, the compelling image of the deity, plus the bright colors used in this particular batik attract attention.
