Manjushri is many of the beings of awakenings whose principal mission appears to be to instruct the faithful and guide them step by step to the path of liberation. Manjushri was the initiator and master of the Buddhas of past ages and will be that of the future Buddha, Maitreya. Manjushri is the father and mother of Bodhisattvas. He is a divinity with a peaceful demeanour and, a sublime sense of tranquilly. In this thangka, focus on the pleasant face of the Bodhisattva. Despite the flaming sword in his hands and the determined attitude of the arms that hold them, he stares out at the world with a kind and genuinely soothing glance. At the end of his flaming aureole, there is a lotus blooming which represents civilization. Manjushri hands are in Varada and Vitarka mudras. In mandalas and painting, Manjushri is normally yellow but in this esoteric representation that is white in colour.
