Most Mughal miniatures are dramatically narrative and aim at psychological expression. Taking their cue from Jahangir Nama, many allegorical and dynastic portraits have been painted. This majestic work belongs to the latter category and is unique in composition and execution.

Emperor Jahangir is seated under a canopy that is an architectural delight. Architecture is one feature that divides different parts of the thematic content here with Jahangir enclosed within the marvellous structure. He faces Prince Khurram who has returned from a battle well fought. He raises his hand in salutation as his father reaches his hand to his heart in a gesture of blessing. A young chowri-bearer looks upon the father son meeting with interest.

Besides the elaborate architecture of the throne canopy, there are carvings on the walls to reckon with. Mughal paintings such as this one are rich and grand in style.
