From the ochre-tinted skies of the backdrop, the hour is that point in twilight referred to as the go-dhuli (cow-dust) lagna (moment). The youthful chhavi (image) of the Lord predominates the foreground, where He stands amidst a sea of verdant, quivering lily-pads. From amongst those lily-pads sprout pale crimson lotuses, a bunch of which the divine youth has plucked up in His hands. Note the sameness between the colour of His roseate mouth and the lotus-buds that He holds next to them.
In His other hand is the flute, indispensable to His iconography. Karnakundalas and a plume of the peacock wedged into His thick, flowing curls. Ample shringar the colour of an earthy gold, its sheen setting off the soothing duskiness of the Lord’s complexion.
