This painting is narrative in character, telling of an important episode in the Mahabharata. In the battlefield, Arjuna is hesitant about attacking his own relatives. There Krishna gives him a sermon, commonly known as Bhagavad Geeta. He, hereby, asks Arjuna to believe in him i.e. Krishna and do his Karma' not thinking about the consequences. Krishna will not forsake anyone who shows faith in him. Here, Krishna is seen as the charioteer who guides Arjuna's chariot all through the battle. The chariot is painted in fancy patterns, driven by dark horses. A parasol, shading the duo adds to the majesty of the vehicle. The blue bodied Krishna looks his regal self, while confusion still reigns on Arjuna's face. Men pointed around the central theme seem superfluous and do not add to the narrative.
