The Sultanate paintings are different from Mughal paintings in spirit and content. The dresses are Persian; colors are rich with shades of lapis blue, green, purple predominating. Colors, though bright, are not selected by the rules of corresponding values and contrasts but rather from dramatic impact.

It is a graceful and spirited composition in spite of its conventional intention and displays a sense of rhythm. It is a magnificent study of animal life and the coaxing attitude and expression of the keeper/trainer is perfect in characterization and technique. Not only is there refinement of technique but an intense emotional subtlety and a sense for the miniaturistic that is due to inspiration and ideal of traditional Iranian practices. For the artist here, color is a means of balancing the composition, of building internal rhythm and therefore visual interest. Color is far more brilliant, not only in intensity but in range and variation.

The face and the legs are thin and delicate while the middle body is unproportionately bulky. As the eyes of the viewer move from its soulful eyed, they rest on the colorful saddle bearing horizontal stripes. The trainer's attire and headdress denote his Iranian origin. This lively picture is filled with action and expression of the mood and character of the two.

Enlargement of the figure of the horse in proportion to the man and space is conscious and the artist's special way of according dignity to the main subject of his painting.
