This excellent painting tells that the simple village folk, if recounts of microcosm, also has knowledge of the macrocosm. As it goes, this world in the beginning was merely non-Being. Then it existed. It developed. It turned into an egg. As the Golden Embryo, Brahma is first among the gods. He has no beginnings; he dwells in the center of the earth's lotus.
The artist has painted the background in dull gray with linear pattern for the lotus. Knowing well, the Madhubani artists' fondness for colour, he must have resisted the urge to paint it bright. Nevertheless, he paints the border bright enough with floral vines running through all four sides. The egg is painted in brilliant golden relegating everything else into oblivion.
