The lady looks like a celestial nymph in deep communication with the swan, highlighting as it were a dramatic moment of her life. Hers can well be the face for the bards of India to wax eloquence down the ages. There is no taint of the voluptuous about her face or figure; it is the silent love of her heart expressing itself in the gleam of her eyes and the glow of her cheeks; the tender, dignified and utterly lovely expression that makes her so fascinating. And if she seems human inspite of all ennobling idealization, it is only because she is placed in a human situation. With her cheek placed on her folded hand, she confesses her deepest desires to the passive yet emphathetical bird. It evokes great emotion, noble as well as base. She is an idealized beauty, yet materialized into concrete actuality with which we can establish a sense of rapport.
The lines are spontaneous and precise. The hand has indeed obeyed the command of the artist's vision. the architectonic structuring of the canvas into planes for the placement of the characters and objects in appropriate positions and their compositional integration with perspective and thematic cohesion with mutually interacting emotive content and cross current instance his technical virtuosity and also the artist's aesthetic finesse.
