Unlike the nine previous gurus, Guru Gobind took on the form of a warrior, as can be seen here. He holds an arrow in his hand; a sword hangs to his waistband, the hilt of which is visible. His majestic persona continues with strings of pearls and stones adorning his neck and the turban. On his wrist rests a hawk.
Yellow has always symbolized bhakti; thus the guru wears a yellow 'choga' and the turban. A divine white halo surrounds his head.
Guru is the central theme but the artist has given the background it's deserved due. The clear blue sky and the deep blue river vie for prominence with the dense, green vegetation. The foreground, and the most of the background has variations of green. The dullness of the same helps to catapult the brilliance of the protagonist into more prominence.
