The thangka that you see on this page depicts the beauteous Bodhisattva seated upon a throne of coloured lotus petals. His limbs are gathered in the perfect padmasana; His long, slender torso leans slightly rightwards, as if gathering momentum in order to bring down the sword. Betwixt the fingers of His left hand is the superfine stem of a cosmic padma (lotus). In the lap of its golden petals lies a scripture of the Prajnaparamita sootras.
A dense network of lines and motifs surround the central figure of the seated Bodhisattva. In the foreground, a plateful of offerings flanked by Lord Avalokiteshvara and Lord Mahakala. Beyond the haloed head of Majushri are the five contemplative Buddhas, each of them in padmasana and all but one of them holding in their laps the Tibetan medicine pot. The colour palette is dominated by gold against a solid black backdrop, interspersed with hints of cerulean and peach (in that order of predominance).
