The beautiful Goddess Rajarajeshwari, a powerful form of Goddess Parvati, is depicted in a wonderful way in this Tanjore painting. Parvati being the eternal consort of Lord Shiva manifests into many forms that are worshiped by the Shakta sect. Overlaid with 24 Karat gold studded with sequences of shining stones along with the outlines, the painting catches anyone’s attention. Notice how precisely the artist has given perfect finishing to the painting making it unique and stand out from any other artwork.
The merciful Goddess Rajarajeshwari, also known as Tripura Sundari, sits in lalitasana on a Kirtimukham throne, which is surrounded by a beautiful structure on its either side. The motifs on it give the true essence of the rich culture of South Indian artwork. The fair complexion of the Goddess appears just like the glowing sun as her body glitters being elaborately adorned with several gold ornaments. Attired in a bright red saree forming perfect pleats between her legs, she looks graceful having four arms. With the two upper arms, she holds a noose and goads while with the lower ones, she holds a stock of lotus flowers and a sprig of sugarcane. She brings a soft smile on her face which depicts her extremely merciful nature towards her devotees. The use of vibrant traditional colors makes this painting even more aesthetic and what to speak of the special embellishment.
