Goddess Meenakshi, an Avatar (incarnation) of Goddess Parvati, the eternal consort of Lord Shiva who is the destroyer of the material world. Parvati manifests as Meenakshi in the form of the consort of Lord Sundareshvara which is a divine form of Mahadev. This is a unique painting that displays the icon of the Goddess with great glorification and one thing that makes it more special is the way it has been embellished with pure gold which makes it realistic and gives an aesthetic look to the entire artwork.
As her name suggests, the beautiful eyes of Devi Meenakshi are like the shape of a fish; “Meena” meaning fish and “Akshi” meaning eye. She stands straight atop an elevated platform, her feet on a lotus flower. Her body complexion resembles the color of fresh leaves grown in the autumn season. A jeweled crown adorns her head, her hair gathered in a bun that beholds a crescent moon upon it. She is gorgeously attired in a golden saree forming perfect pleats and several heavy ornaments around her neck glow effulgently. She holds a lotus flower which is the symbol of purity in her left hand while the right hand remains free. The elaborate decorations with so many colorful flowers around her and the intricate detailing of the Prabhavali along the smooth teakwood borders accentuates the rich color combinations in the painting.
