Under a magnificent Kirtimukham Prabhavali, Goddess Gajalakshmi is seated on a full-blown lotus in clear water. She is considered one among the eight primary manifestations or forms of Goddess Lakshmi (Ashtalakshmi), who is also known as the Goddess of fortune or Vishnupatni. She is revered as the bestower of power of royalty and prosperity in the lives of her devotees. Often associated with material wealth, she also blesses those individual souls who seek the path of the Absolute Truth which is Lord Vishnu or Krishna.
Attired in a beautiful saree with perfect pleats that gracefully spread between her legs as she sits in padmasana, she is flanked by a nicely decorated white elephant (Gaja) on her either side. They lift and swirl their trunk up as to glorify the Goddess. Behind the Prabhavali, a constructed templegate can be seen. She is bedecked with several ornaments on her fair-complexioned body and is adorned with a flower garland around her shoulders. A soft and gentle smile on her beautiful face describes her merciful nature, at the same time, a huge jeweled crown on her head describes her exalted personality. This fusion of power and softness makes Goddess Gajalakshmi very special. She holds a lotus flower in her two upper hands while the lower hands remain in Abhaya Mudra (hand gesture of fearlessness) and the boon granting Varada Mudra. Framed in teakwood this pure gold inlaid painting with intricate patterns and detailing accentuates its aesthetic look. Also, the rich traditional color combinations of South India are eye-catching.
