Divided into eight sections, every one of them a window into a sacred place of worship, this painting colors a picture of the eight incarnations of Goddess Lakshmi, also called Ashtalakshmi. Each goddess embodies her own unique power that she uses to help her loyal subjects.
Arranged in order, here are the various ways in which the great goddess presents in front of her loyal devotees: Adi Lakshmi (The Primeval Goddess), also called Maha Lakshmi; Dhanya Lakshmi (Goddess of Grains); Veer Lakshmi or (The Goddess of Valor), Gaja Lakshmi (The Elephant Goddess); Santana Lakshmi (The Goddess of Progeny); Dhana Lakshmi (The Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity); Vidya Lakshmi (The Goddess of Knowledge); and Vijaya Lakshmi or Jaya Lakshmi (The Goddess of Victory). The goddesses are framed by golden archways, resembling that of a temple shrine, accurately portrayed as their followers are always in supplication and willing to worship them. Above them hangs heavy drapery decorated with decorative beads embedded into the painting, radiating an imperial and magnificent presence. All of them are presented with an offering of sweets in front of them as they sit on their pedestals, content and lending peace and protection to those who look for it.
