This Kalamkari depicts the image of Durga on a triple layered pedestal. The eight-armed battle queen holds in her hands, the weapons provided by the gods - a shield and a sword in the main hands. She wears a local attire, beautiful jewellery and a towering crown; a large halo is there around the glorious goddess. Despite being proclaimed a battle queen, she has a tranquil expression on her face; the large eyes look kindly at her devotees.
Behind Durga, sharing the same platform is her vehicle, the lion. Animal representations were used to portray certain characteristics of a divinity. The powerful lion as a vehicle, therefore, befits the status of the great goddess.
The black background helps to project the clarity of the image of the goddess and her mount.
