A pair of elephants tread through the forest in the middle of a purple night. They are tall, big, gracious animals, their deep brown coats gleaming under the moonlight. One of them has its trunk raised majestically above its head, exposing its pristine tusks to the gaze of the viewer. Their eyes are sharp, full of wisdom and reserve. Revered in Indian culture for its sattvik demeanour, the elephant is a creature as gentle as it is gigantic. Their thick limbs motion through the dense undergrowth of the tropical evergreen forests of India, which is their home, disturbing not a single creature of the night.

Towering palms on either side of the painting add balance to the composition, the bitone fronds finished with luxuriant proportion of colour. The most striking aspect of this gorgeous batik work of art is the nightsky, the amalgamation of red and purple and the glimmering poornima (full moon) hanging thereon.
