Hindu life and belief is rooted in a mythology of gods and goddesses. Ganesha is one of the most popular Indian deities, a god of wisdom and bestower of boons. Ganesha is the god who rules over obstacles and must be invoked at the beginning of every undertaking.

Ganesha is often associated with dance and music. The artist has worked upon this image of Ganesha in the softest of tones. The four-armed deity is seated, playing the mridangam and a veena. He holds a manuscript in one hand too! This image speaks of his association with goddess Saraswati, who also holds a veena and a manuscript besides other attributes. He is shown wearing a yellow dhoti and shoulder cloth, ornate ornaments and a garland of wild flowers. His head tilts towards the right, adding grace to the seated posture. Behind him are huge bolsters, against which Ganesha rests.

The background is staid but for an unusual halo in mild tones. The foreground has an auspicious pot a tray of modakas, a manuscript, perfume water spray and of course, a mouse which is Ganesha's vehicle. The colour palette is the high point of the painting, supported by a thin, strong line.
