A mystical portray of Lord Krishna, who is the source of all pleasure and love. He appeared on the earth to associate and reciprocate with His beloved devotees. Every resident of Vrindavan was in love with Krishna and they considered Him to be their everything. Krishna, in return, gave them the highest state of happiness. His transcendental activities and pastimes are so pleasant that whoever reads or hear about them, goes into a state of trance.
Elaborately decorated with pure gold coating and shining stones, this Tanjore style painting is undeniably a work of aesthetic value. Here, the cowherd boy Gopala Krishna stands in His most attractive Tribhanaga stance (three-fold-bending form) under a beautiful tree bearing small white flowers. Multiple hoods of the divine Ananta Shesha form a canopy over His head to give Him protection.
Murlidhara Krishna then places Venu (flute) to His sweet lips and plays upon it. Listening to the sweet sound of the flute, Krishna’s beloved Surabhi cow experiences the state of pure happiness and starts licking His lotus feet out of ecstasy. Two beautifully dressed and ornamented gopis stand on either side of Krishna and fan Him with Chaamara and peacock feathers. Their amused expressions and a pleasant smile on their faces tell how much they enjoy Krishna’s presence. Anyone who sees this painting sees not just a simple artwork, but a celebration because wherever there is Krishna, there is a festival.
