Occupying the entire pictorial space, the plant stands tall, emerging from the ground in a rush. The long, narrow leaves start from the base, arranged in a manner that shows delicacy of rhythm and balance. Not only the arrangement, but the twists and the turns of the shapely leaves provide the necessary lyricism to the painting. The stalks holding the buds and the leaves spurt out from pods. The pink and blue colors of the flowers may not seem very realistic but the rendering of petals is. Some petals are tightly clasped in the form of buds, afraid to blossom, and the others spread themselves in the air of freedom. To add to the realism of the flowers, the artist adds a butterfly hovering around the flowers in full bloom. The natural lively colors of the butterfly are restrained so as not to clash with the brilliance of the flowers
Very subtle shading signify the sky and the ground is strongly defined.
