From the sturdy ground, shoots out a strong, erect stem, confident of bearing the weight of numerous leaves, buds and flowers. There is a cluster of long, curling leaves at the base. On observation, one finds that the shading is denser and brighter towards the inside and in a lighter shade around the edges, which helps in giving the leaves and the flowers a sense of volume. The artist has carefully arranged the composition laying importance on balance and lyrical quality than on natural rendition. The petals of the royal blue flowers are closely packed even in fully bloomed flowers. A semi-bloomed bud forms the crowning glory of the plant, sitting atop the main stem, head held higher than the rest, welcoming the butterfly, hovering around it.
The background is treated plain, laying total focus on the main subject.
