One frequently sees iconic images and religious subjects depicted in batik works. Representational scenes are hard to come by because it involves many colours which means as many times of dyeing and waxing. By depicting an evening scene, the artist has managed to reduce the number of colours considerably.

A tree cuts across the pictorial space dividing the god's dwelling on the right and the village hutment area on the left. The serenity of the scene is captured by the stillness of the foliage and the clear sky. Glowworms can be seen amongst trees in the dark night. Although most inhabitants have retired a few can still be seen. A man is drawing his oxen cart towards the tree where a cart lies strewn and the two oxen are resting close to it. The temple built on a high plinth has a tapering shikhar. A few people can be seen around it. Women are returning to their dwellings with water pot on their heads.

There is solitude and stillness in the scene strengthened by the colours. Brown, yellow and green are predominantly used with off white colour catapulting the picture into prominence. Despite the bright yellow and white, the work maintains the peaceful ambience of the village by night.
