Royal portraiture in Indian culture is a tradition followed by many ruling families, to remember and crystalize their power within a canvas, for future generations to see. In this oil painting, we see a regally attired Deccani prince, in an Angarakha (upper body garment), shawl, headgear, and shoes. Various ornaments adorn his imposing presence in the portrait, which is enhanced by the sword he confidently holds. A chair in the right half of the canvas serves as his handrest. Grandeur is added to the painting with the caramel shade and golden embellishments.
