India has an ancient civilization with a deep historicity. Identifying with the ancient matriarchal society India is feminine and called Mother India.

With the national flag fluttering in the background, the mother that is symbolically India, carries a bleeding Gandhi, representing today's state of India, in her arms. The publicly recognized values of life in India are Truth, Goodness and Beauty – Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram. There is a clear contradiction between professed beliefs and those implicit in actual behaviour. Mother India wearing an intricate crown, jewellery and rich attire, shows the wealth the country possess. With tears flowing down her cheeks, she looks helplessly at the bleeding man who stood for honesty and integrity. This painting is not just patriotic, but laden with symbolism. What seems to be at the back of the artists mind is the general dehumanization and desensitization in the individual of today's India.

Using rich purple for Mother India's clothing and white for Gandhi's austerity, it brings into sharp contrast, not only colours but wealth with scanty needs. Various colours of the background depict various moods of the sky – from somber sunrise to dark and cloudy mood. The foreground is green, symbolizing fertility and prosperity. This painting is richly symbolic in theme, colour and drawing.
