Kite flying festivals are popular in upper India. It gives the Rajasthani an opportunity to indulge in colour again. Kites of various shapes, designs and colours can be seen in the sky. The terrace of the palace is the battleground for the kite-flying contest that takes place between a team of men and women on each side. The kites are airlifted in the sky with the help of a strong string rolled on to a wooden roller. While the prince and the princess are maneuvering the kites, the friends are seen holding the string bearing rollers. The women are wearing ghagra cholis with transparent odhinis, while the men are generally dressed in jama-churidar and a 'patka' (waist cloth).
The artist has taken a distant perspective of the scene. The foreground has a sturdy wall with dome bearing turrets. From there, the artist takes a photographic view to capture the scene of activity and then the neighbouring terrace, replete with arches and domes; and also covers the kite-dotted sky.
