The swallow tail butterfly in riotous colours is drawn and painted with keen observation. The large and colourful wings are the most eye catching feature and prove that this is the most gorgeous of all insects. Here, the butterfly is shown with its wings conventionally outspread. Instead of presenting the butterfly in a more way, a disproportionate flower has been placed beneath it. Actually, insects and foliage together make an attractive composition and in order to give it a realistic pose, it is a good idea to rest it on its food plant or a pretty flower. The artist has exactly done that but flawed in proportion.
The flowers and leaves are in soft pink and green respectively in order to make the bright and yellow stand out in contrast. A cluttered or a colourful background would have left the butterfly less conspicuous and the viewer would have failed to appreciate it in its full glory and beauty.
Calligraphic writing makes the painting even more attractive. Islamic influence is evident in the calligraphic writing and the desire to decorate the illustration more ornately.
