The divine mischief-maker leans over a pot of freshly churned butter. His small hands have turned it over, and now the nourishing white elixir is pouring forth onto the floors of Nanda-Yashoda’s home in Vrindavan. He has helped Himself to some from a white goblet nearby, but clearly little Gopala hungers for more.
He turns His little baby head towards the door of the pantry. With bated breath, He watches out for Yashoda. His mother must have become privy to the situation from the sound of the pot toppling over, and would emerge on the scene any moment now. Clad in red and green silks and gold ornaments made of pure gold embellishment on canvas, Gopala cuts an irresistibly adorable picture.
Vibrant scarlet curtains in the background. These contrast sharply with the gold-layered gessowork that makes up the utensils and the pillars of Yashoda’s pantry. The same are studded with glittering red stones resembling rubies, which complement the upholstery. Those, in turn, are hemmed with gold embellishment.
