The great Lord Shiva gazes into your eyes. He is omniscient: nothing that has passed over the devotee’s heart escapes Him. The finest jewels in all three realms of existence (lokas) adorn His neck and earlobes. For a crown, He has a mountain of hair piled high atop His head.
Nestling in His locks is the beauteous Devi Ganga. Besides Him, there is none that could contain the ardour of the powerful riverine goddess. The perfect symmetry of the composition: irrespective of scale, the facial features of both the divinities are aligned along the same midline.
Shades of Prussian blue not only define their twin features, but pour over into the canvas in fluid waves. This creates an interesting gradient, indicative of the deep mysteries of the divine. The natural ivory tone of the canvas complements the play of blue and the thick black brushstrokes that define the features of the divine countenances.
