The painting shows Ganesha seated on a pedestal in a cusp arched pavilion with a roof sheeted with gold. The god is sitting in a relaxed mood. The colours used to achieve the remarkably tranquil atmosphere are: the most striking is blue for the background, the golden yellow for the roof cover, pedestal, dress and beige for the face and hands. Garnet and diopside are used for jewellery. White colour is used for the lotus garland that he is eating around his neck among his other jewellery. The weapons are coloured deliberately in subdued colours.
The artist has marvellously succeeded in a remarkable fashion in portraying the common and symbolic aspect of Lord Ganesha and used his imagination effectively to loosen the rigid bonds. Virtually everything in this painting is elaborately and perfectly embellished with 24 Karat Gold which is the characteristic feature of the Tanjore style artwork.
