"During this month the deceased forefathers descend to receive respect. People rever the Nava-Durga (nine forms of goddess Durga) for victory in this world and after. Rulers begin touring their territories. The sky is crystal clear (after the rains) and the lotuses are blooming in the lakes. Moon shines beautifully in the night sky. Goddess Lakshmi and Vishnu dance divinely. In Ashvin, a month like the wish-fulfilling tree for lovers, why think of leaving home?"
As described in the Kavipriya of Keshvdas, the Nayika asks the blue-skinned Nayaka (representing Krishna), to stay with her, in the months of September and October, when nature provides the perfect ambiance for dalliance and togetherness. Filled with the beauty of lotuses spreading fragrance all around and exquisitely decorated by foliage on the outlines, this painting brings with it the charm of romance undying.
