The Baala-Swaroopa (childhood form) of Sri Krishna is adoringly revered across India, for the warm emotions of Vaatsalya (affection) it instills in the devotees' hearts. In this vibrantly painted Tanjore painting, the childhood Krishna is presented as a cowherd boy, standing in his charming Tribhanga posture, with Gau mata and her calf, on a uniquely designed platform that is formed like the grazing fields of Vrindavana.
Adorned beautifully and dressed in his usual dhoti and Patka (sash), Krishna has a heavenly innocence on his face, which pulls one closer to his roopa. An ethereally gold layered tree with peacocks perched on its branches forms the Chattra (umbrella) of Krishna.
A touch of European aesthetics can be seen in the guitar held by the Gopi on Krishna's right, who complements the classical tunes of the Veena player on his left, both singing in praise of the moon-faced Baala-Krishna.
