Over the centuries, Indian artists developed an extensive repertory of symbols and images to express the profound truths of major religions. Auspicious symbols such as the lotus, brimming vase, snake, wheel, swastika etc. were important components of this visual language.

Dyed in basic earthly colours, we see some of the symbols mentioned above. The fundamental meanings of these auspicious symbols transcend the specifies of any one faith. The pivotal pattern displays the Swastika, which is a kind of mystical cross made to denote good luck. It also denotes welfare, prosperity, fortune and success. Around the swastika is the open-ended patterns that constitute the yantra. The parallelogram that holds this pattern is superimposed on yet another eight sided design; the corners that are visible have the sacred vase which symbolize fertility and abundance.

The subdued shades of rust, brick red and green are brightened to some extent by the white and the yellow which in turn have the multi coloured crackle which refrain it from being jarringly bright. The background is also off white with the crackle which is a prominent characteristic of batik.
