A traditional fan makes up for the entire composition of this painting. These kinds of fans were used in aristocratic families in the bygone era. The outer edge of the fan visually gives the feel of soft satin. The inner flap having a floral pattern is stiff to assist the whiff of breeze. The mirror work on this flap is achieved by actual coloured mirrors glued on the painting. The handlebars of the fan are just slightly raised, giving it a third dimension in a very subtle manner. The fan is attached to the bar with the help of sturdy chords. A thin string runs from the satin edge to help in pulling, a part of the actual fan but in the painting this string disturbs the composition.
In mauve and purple, the artist experiments with novel colours in a traditional object.
