A view of the Machhapuchhare from Himachal Pradesh, India. Machhapuchhare is a peak of the upper Himalayan range, located in Nepal. The painting that you see on this page depicts a lone-house settlement at the foothills of the lower Himalayan range in India. The gorgeous peak rises in the distance, its pristine beauty set off by the roseate azure skies.
The canvas is visually demarcated into three horizontal sections. Machhapuchhare and some mountains of the middle Himalayan range are in the topmost panel. In the foreground are wide swathes of green, emerald-like plantations of the Himachali people.
At the very centre of the canvas is the gently pacing woman of a Himachali woman. Her thatch-roofed house is flanked by the region’s conifers. There is the customary outhouse; and, interestingly, a stoopa between house and outhouse.
