Goddess Gajalakshmi is one of the eight forms of Lakshmi (Ashtalakshmi) and is the bestower of the power of royalty, prosperity and abundance in the lives of her devotees. But since Lakshmi is the eternal consort of Lord Vishnu, she is always engaged in His loving service, and therefore, anyone who worships the Lord, receives very easily the special mercy of Gajalakshmi. The fact that this painting is handmade and decorated with pure gold makes it stand out from the ordinary paintings.
Here, Goddess Gajalakshmi is gracefully seated on a throne in Ardhapadmasana; her right leg placed on the seat of the throne, while the left one goes towards the floor. As she sits in this posture, the pleats of her red saree beautifully spread between her legs. She is flanked by a pure white elephant (gaja) on her either side who raise their trunks above as if honoring the Goddess with all their capacity. Her molten gold complexioned body is bedecked with different gold ornaments and a huge crown on her head represents her exalted position. In each of her two upper arms, she holds a lotus flower, while the lower hands are in the boon granting Varada Mudra and Abhaya Mudra (the hand gesture of fearlessness). A soft and gentle smile on her beautiful face describe her extremely merciful nature towards her devotees. A stream of flow of gold coins pouring down can also be seen. Finally, the Prabhavali surrounding her adds to the beautification of the painting and the rich traditional color combinations make it attractive and unique.
