The kundalini chakra is of utmost importance in India's yoga tradition. It is visualised as a slumbering serpent coiled up at the base of the spine, which awakens or rises up the spine as one goes deeper into one's yoga sadhana. This awakening leads to enlightenment or the divine union of one's jivatma with paramatma.
