The urli is a quintessentially Indian piece of home decor. Its function is simple, but the benefits it proffers to Indian households fills members with the sense of home. The urli is usually a large, shallow-bottomed vessel. It is filled to the neck with freshwater, atop which are then strewn the petals of newly bloomed and plucked flowers.
This arrangement is more than the aesthetics that meet the eye - it fills the surroundings with a scent so earthy and so beautiful, we continue to associate it with our homes and the pooja-ghar (altars) even when we are far apart.
