Chowkis are of many types; while the small chowkis are for sitting, the ones with a long stand are only used for placing sacred objects at a respectful height. This brass chowki with ghungroos is a longitudinal chowki with delicate decorations on the stand. There is the main brass plate or top decorated with delicate Bel Buta designs and a central motif of a flower, very common to be found on Hindu ritual objects. The stand is ornamented with motifs of flora, specifically dancing vines.
The base looks like a structure decorated with leaf patterns, but the shape resembles the trunk of an old tree that stands on four legs. The Chowki is an apt stand for placing sacred lamps or even small statues of Gods and Goddesses and keeping them safe from the reach of toddlers. This Chowki, with the tan finish and beautiful ornamentation of ghungroos, is a magnificent addition to the Puja space decoration.
