A simple moment from the everyday life of rural regions is transformed into an artistic element in this small brass artwork, depicting a teacher sitting with their student on a Charpai (a woven bed used in rural India). Even in its small size, the brass piece manages to capture details that infuse the figures with a sense of animation. With a stick in his hand, the teacher holds the ear of the student, who can be identified as a female due to her Juda (hairdo), to reprimand her, as she opens her book. A relatable event from the life of an average Indian student- being disciplined by the teacher, makes this a piece filled with humor, which is expressed in the tone of the famous tribal artworks of Dhokra.
