This spherical bead, initially made in two halves is cleverly joined. On the two ends is the design akin to star shaped bead caps. This is topped by a wide hole with a thick wire running around it. It gives a slightly elongated shape to the spherical bead. This particular design is found in many early Islamic designs. The Koran refers to stars as 'beads of the sky' and having that on a bead itself added to the glory.
