Malavika Sarukkai, internationally acclaimed Bharata Natyam dancer-choreographer, is celebrated for her intense, innovative and spiritual style. Despite being a firm believer in the continuity of the classical tradition, she brings to her style, a living, pulsating immediacy.
Vaahini offers selections from the traditional repertoire as well as dance compositions choreographed to contemporary poems.
Her many awards include the Padma Shree, received from the President of India, and the Sangeet Natak Akademy Award from the National Academy of Music and Dance.
Malavika Sarukkai has performed in major festivals all over India. She has represented India and the Bharata Natyam style in the Festivals of India held in USA, France, UK, Japan and Brazil, participated in cultural events including the Edinburgh Festival, Saddlers Wells and Queen Elizabeth Hall in UK, the Biennale de la danse, Lyons, Theatre Du Rond-Point and Theatre De La Ville in France, among many others
