The idea of producing this album was conceived to explore the possibility of singing Tansen's poetry in both Dhrupad and Khayal from of vocal art, as his creations are the most authentic form of texts written for the rendition of classical music.
Music today is glad to acknowledge Ajoy Chakraborty for his special effort in singing the compositions based on Dhrupad style. His sincere effort towards this publication and understanding about the genre has rightly motivated him to explore the value and beauty of the texts in Dhrupad style.
Rahid Khan was as usual in top form and skillfully adopted Miyan Tansen's text and proficiently unfolded the beauty of the compositions in his own style, which has evolved from the Rampur-Sehaswan school singing. His imagination and rendition have enriched this collection and established the possibility of rendering Miyan Tansen's poetry in Khayal style.
One of the well-known compositons rendered by the legend Amir Khan- "Baaje Niki Ghoonghariyaa," has been sung by Meeta Pandit for this collection. Meeta, the celebrated performer of Gwalior school brilliantly adopted the compositions and rendered them magnificently in her own style.
Nirmalya Dey, the exponent of Dagar-vani School of music, took the opportunity of embellishing the poetry of Miyan Tansen in his style of singing. The melodic progression, poetic presentation of the texts, rhythmic improvisations are a few qualities of Nirmaly's performance. His renditions disclose the beauty of presenting the traditional compositions in Dhupad style.
All the performers who performed for this album essentially maintain the consistency and integrity of the melodic and poetic thought of Miyan Tansen. This publication carries high importance in terms of understanding the latent spirit o music- structured in compositions, which are imbued with the spontaneous improvisation of each performer. The collection of the texts has philosophical, social and literary values, which provide a fair example of the wide range of subjects, which inspired Tansen in writing these texts.
